L.L.Bean is currently seeking an Associate Retail Merchandiser, Women's Apparel to assist our Retail Merchants in developing the assortment for all Retail locations through multi-channel catalog vendor as well as third party brands.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following;
Working independently or with a Senior Retail Merchandiser to develop assortment selections for all Retail locations through multi-channel catalog vendors as well as third party brands
Developing the most compelling and competitive assortment for each store for each floor set/season to support top line sales and bottom line margin
Participating in the creation of merchandising vision for each floor set/season to turn over to the Visual team
Participating in strategic planning for assigned areas
Job Tasks:
1. Develops Retail assortment through the selection of multi-channel and retail-only product
Contributes to pre-season merchandise financial plans in partnership with Planner that achieves department, channel, and corporate objectives
Creates, communicates and executes a profitable and brand-relevant vision and assortment that supports brand positioning and achieves financial targets
Shops the market and competition to gain current knowledge of product, category trends, hot items, and new vendors in order to develop an enhanced activity-based product assortment in support of L.L.Bean brand that drive top line sales
Develops an assortment outline utilizing sales goals, trends, and market information in order to partner with and communicate Retail needs with our Corporate Product Development team in the development of the product line
Executes markdowns and promotions as driven by the corporate channel as well as retail only that achieve business goals and company objectives
Develops and executes overall buy strategies and actively manages inventory for product. Recognizes and understands business trends
2. Collaborates with corporate Inventory Management, Planners, and Allocators on timing of product needs, deliveries, in-stock levels, seasonal allocation and forecasts
3. Analyzes and reacts to in season product performance focusing on sales, margin, and sell-thru rates. Contributes to development of action plans
4. Works directly with vendors to maximize volume and profit. Monitors and evaluates vendor performance. Negotiates and influences deliveries, minimums, pricing and specific product needs
5. Develops exit strategies and liquidation plans specific to product group in order to maximize sales and minimize markdowns and inventory
6. Maintains all systems connected to product assortment. Competencies with all toolsets required, to include: ladders, OTB, financial planning, EDW, Excel, with expertise in CHAP
7. Contributes to merchandise vision by season, floor set, and transition periods. Partners with Visual Merchandiser to create floor set directives that support merchandise vision and strategy
8. Collaborates with Marketing on all events, expos, and promotions for assigned product groups
9. Visits stores regularly to ensure product assortment is compelling and competitive in each market and store
10. Fulfills role as back up to Merchandiser as needed
11. Performs additional related responsibilities as assigned
Health and Safety Requirement: Ensures compliance with the L.L.Bean comprehensive Health and Safety program by knowing and following all safety guidelines, policies, procedures and expectations. Takes immediate and appropriate action to rectify any unsafe conditions.
Associates degree required

years of relevant experience required
Thorough knowledge of market and competitive trend direction; ability to apply appropriate elements to the Bean
business.
Retail Buying/Merchandising experience.
Inventory management experience.
Ability to actively seek input through collaboration and reinforcement of company vision.
Ability to create an environment of innovation through challenging existing patterns of thought and action; encourages
calculated risk-taking based on analysis and objective data.
Results-driven approach; bias for action and creative problem solving.
Financial management acumen with complete understanding of all terms, calculations, and retail math metrics.
